The ambitious Indian sportscar project, the DC Avanti seems to be gaining popularity in the enthusiast markets. With an on-road estimated price of Rs. 40 lakh, the DC Avanti has still managed to get over 450 pre-launch bookings.
Out of these 450 bookings, 300 units are export orders, which is quite commendable for a made-in-India sportscar. Deliveries for the Indian customers would commence around March 2015.
DC will manufacture only 500 units of the Avanti sportscar this year and would bump up this figure to 2,000 units in the next couple of years. The project so far has accounted for over Rs. 125 crores.
The DC Avanti will be powered by a 2.0L, Ecoboost, 4-cylinder, turbocharged, direct injection petrol engine producing 250 BHP of power @ 5,500 RPM and 366 Nm of torque @ 3,500 RPM. Engine is mated to a 6-speed manual transmission. The sportscar is built on a tubular space frame chassis and gets double wishbones and coil over shock absorbers.
The car measures 4,623mm in length, 1,967mm in width, 1,213mm in height and has a wheelbase of 2,700mm. Ground clearance is at a healthy 170mm and the car weighs 1,562 kg.
