Daimler India Commercial Vehicles have registered a 3.3% rise in domestic market share which rose from 5.8% to 9.1%, as per IFRS accounting standards, for the calendar year 2020. The brand also announced that incoming order in Q4 was nearly up by 150% and the sales in the domestic market increased by 46%, despite COVID-19 pandemic and the lockdown associated with it.
In the domestic market, DICV registered sales of 9,624 units which is 34% less than in 2019 when the company sold 14,474 units. But according to DICV, the number is better than the overall industry record of 60% contraction. In the export market, DICV achieved a new milestone by exporting 35,000 vehicles, 5,500 CKD (Completely Knocked Down) kits and 150 million parts. The brand also celebrated 100,000 BharatBenz vehicles on Indian roads.
The DICV bus segment continues to expand its state-of-the-art technology for its customers by offering new features. The brand also rolled-out the Fuso bus and secured its first order of 1017 AC BharatBenz buses from the Government of Assam. The buses will do duty at the airport, the city as well as intercity transportation. The bus division of DICV also celebrated the sales milestone of 5000 units in December 2020.
BharatBenz revealed six trucks and two buses for the Indian market with its focus on safety, performance, fuel efficiency, reliability, and maintenance cost. The brand also unveiled a new specialized Reefer truck called BSafeExpress designed for the safe transportation of the COVID-19 vaccine in India. The BSafeExpress features a specialised refrigeration unit that maintains the temperature and stability of the COVID-19 vaccine at different stages of transport and delivery. The container is produced by Motherson Group and uses Glass Reinforced Plastic, XPS Foam and other materials specifically curated for the purpose. The container rides on the BharatBenz 2823R chassis that features the latest ‘Truckonnect’ telematics platform. The new truck will have the ability to deliver the vaccine in the remotest parts of India.
