The India Bike Week attracts biker’s from all around the country. One such brand synonym with the IBW is the Harley-Davidson. It is also tradition for Harley-Davidson owners to tailor-make their machines and its radical customisations. Thanks to this, each and every Harley owner has a unique motorcycle in their garage.
This trend of customisation has led to design houses personalising Harley-Davidson motorcycles further improving them aesthetically as well as bringing out individuality. At the IBW 2023 four leading custom motorcycle builder’s in India showcased their versions of the Harley-Davidson X440 at the annual event in Goa.
TNT Customs
The design house from Delhi, showcased a cool Cafe Racer design using the Harley-Davidson X440 as the base motorcycle. The custom bike features floating rear end, clip-on handlebars and fat tyres. The tank also features a bold ‘X’ clearly denoting the X440 lineage. While the TNT custom X440 retains the upside down front suspension, the rear comes with a mono shock and redesigned subframe.
Bombay Custom Works
Located in the heart of Mumbai, Bombay Motor Works set up shop bringing custom motorcycles to the streets of Mumbai. The Scrambler style Harley-Davidson X440 by BCW features a high-mount exhaust, USD front forks, twin rear shock absorbers, and a flat-bench seat. The bike also comes with wide open-chested handlebars and fat block pattern tyres. The scrambler X440 also comes with features such as headlight delete and a front race number plate.
Old Delhi Motorcycles
The Old Delhi Motorcycle showcased a unique yet nostalgic design integrating a side-car into the motorcycle. Design elements such as a fishtail exhaust tan leather seats and full mudguards blend well with the modern elements of the X440. Changes to the chassis appear minimalistic but a wide flat handlebar resonates well with the classic look.
Rajputana Customs
The Rajputana Customs a well-known design house, showcased a sharp dirt bike style design. Rajputana’s Harley-Davidson X440 features a sharp tail section and slash-cut high-mount exhaust that goes under the seat. The motorcycle also comes with a floating subframe and a cantilever design custom swingarm. Front suspension is a USD while the rear features a mono shock unit. The Rajputana Customs’ Harley-Davidson X440 also comes with fat knobby tyres.
Harley-Davidson X440
Harley-Davidson introduced the X440 in the Indian market in mid of 2023. The new motorcycle is jointly developed with Hero MotoCorp and is the most affordable Harley-Davidson motorcycle in the Indian market. The HD X440 is being manufactured at Hero MotoCorps’s Neemrana production facility in Rajasthan. The motorcycle is also being sold worldwide. Harley-Davidson offers three variants of the X440 – Denim, Vivid and S. Denim being the base model and S the top-end variant.
Powering the Harley-Davidson X440 is a single-cylinder 440cc engine that produces 27 PS of power and 38 Nm of torque. The engine comes with a 6-speed transmission. The bike also comes with a 3.5-inch TFT instruments cluster with Maps support and full LED lighting.
