Citroen, the French automaker, is reportedly planning to launch an automatic version of its C3 hatchback in India. The new variant will feature a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox.
The C3 hatchback was Citroen’s first model under the C-cubed programme for India. Despite being competitively priced, sales have been somewhat disappointing. One of the key factors limiting its appeal was the absence of an automatic gearbox. However, Citroen is set to remedy this by introducing a 6-speed automatic option. This gearbox is currently being used in the C3 Aircross as well.
The automatic gearbox will be paired with the 1.2-litre PURETECH 110 turbo-petrol engine, which produces 109 BHP and 190 Nm. This combination is expected to enhance the driving experience and broaden the car’s appeal.

The C3 Automatic will compete with the likes of the Tata Punch and Hyundai Exter. Both these cars offer automated manual transmissions (AMT) instead of a proper automatic. The smooth and sophisticated 6-speed torque converter in the C3 could give it an edge over its rivals.
According to media reports, Citroen might launch the C3 automatic by June this year. Apart from the automatic gearbox, Citroen also plans to introduce new features in the C3. The car will get an automatic climate control system and a foldable key.
The introduction of the automatic variant is a strategic move by Citroen to boost the sales of the C3 hatchback in India. With the new features and the 6-speed automatic gearbox, the C3 is expected to become a more attractive option for customers seeking comfort and convenience in a compact car.
