Citroën introduced its C5 Aircross at the Paris Motor show in 2018. The brand has been positioning itself to enter the Indian market since. And during a press conference in Chennai in April 2019, it officially announced its arrival. The first vehicle to arrive will be Citroën’s new flagship, the new C5 Aircross SUV.
The Citroën C5 Aircross has a classic SUV design with strong character lines and a bold personality. The SUV is muscular and comes with large alloy wheels and ground clearance of 230mm. It is classed as the most comfortable SUV in its segment thanks to Citroën’s innovative suspension design, Progressive Hydraulic Cushions and Advanced Comfort Seats. Apart from the comfort, it is also a very safe car.
The Citroën C5 Aircross secured a 4-star safety rating at the Euro NCAP safety crash test, which translates to a good performance in crash testing and also shows that good crash protection equipment is present. The passenger compartment was tested using a dummy in a frontal offset test on the C5 Aircross. Readings indicated that the driver is protected from damage to the knee and femur. Lateral impact protection secured 15 out 16 points and frontal full width scored 7 out of 8 points indicating critical areas of the body are protected.
Autonomous Emergency Braking performed well with 3.3 out of 4 points. With a total of 33.4 points / 87% for adult occupants. Child occupants received 42.6 / 86%. The pedestrian impact protection scored 25.7 out of 36 with 13.7 points for head impact and 6 points for pelvis and leg impact. Autonomous Emergency Braking scored 2.2 out of 6 as the C5 Aircross has a camera only AEB which cannot detect cyclists but can detect and respond to pedestrians. Safety assistance scored 9.8 points / 75% in total. With speed assistance scoring 2.5 out of 3, seat belt reminder 2.5 out of 3, lane support scoring 3.5 out of 4 and AEB interurban scoring 1.3 out of 3.
In all, the adult occupant safety score was 87%, the child occupant score was 86%, vulnerable road users score was 58% and the safety assist systems score was 75%.
In India, The Citroën C5 Aircross is expected to be introduced in only one engine option a 1.5-litre turbo diesel engine producing 130 HP of power mated to an 8-speed automatic gearbox. The Citroën C5 Aircross is expected to be launched at a price of around INR 25 – 30 lakh ex, showroom in 2020.
