Citroen will soon launch its second product in the Indian market, the C3. The new C3 crossover gets similar quirky styling as its bigger brother, the C5 Aircross. The latter did little for the French brand to write a success story. When it arrives, the Citroen C3 will compete with one of the most popular cars in its segment, the Tata Punch. Citroen will launch the car soon, and it will start arriving in dealerships shortly after. In this specification comparison, we compare the two so that after the C3 comes, you would know which of the two dealerships you should visit to bring a new car home.
The latest entrant, the Citroen C3, will be available in two variants – Live and Feel. The C3 will also get two engine options – PureTech 82 and PureTech 110. The PureTech 82 will be available in the Live and also the Feel variant. However, the PureTech 110 engine option will only be available with the top-end Feel variant. Currently, pricing is not available for any of the variants.
As for colour options, the Citroen C3 comes with 4 Monotone and 6 Dual-tone colour options. The Monotone colour options are – Polar White, Zesty Orange, Steel Grey and Platinum Grey. Meanwhile, the Dual-tone colour options are – Polar White with Zesty Orange Roof, Polar White with Platinum Grey Roof, Platinum Grey with Zesty Orange Roof, Steel Grey with Zesty Orange Roof, Steel Grey with Platinum Grey Roof and Zesty Orange with Platinum Grey Roof. In addition to this, there will also be 3 customisation packs available – Zesty Orange, Platinum Grey and Chrome.
On the other hand, the Tata Punch is available in four variants – Pure, Adventure, Accomplished and Creative. There is only one engine option available. Tata also offers customisation packs with all four variants. With the Pure and Adventure variants, a Rhythm customisation pack is available. For the Accomplished variant, Tata offers a Dazzle customisation pack. Lastly, the top-end Creative variant gets an optional iRA customisation pack.
Additionally, the Tata Punch is also available in a Kaziranga Edition. There are a total of 7 colour options available with the Punch – Tornado Blue, Calypso Red, Meteor Bronze, Atomic Orange, Tropical Mist, Daytona Grey and Orcus White. In addition to this, customers can even opt for a black- or white-coloured roof. However, the dual-tone option is available only with the Creative variant.
The pricing for the Tata Punch starts at INR 5,82,900 for the Pure MT variant and tops out at INR 9,48,900 for the Kaziranga Edition with iRA. The top-end manual variant is the Kaziranga Edition with iRA and costs INR 8,88,900. The automatic variants start at INR 7,24,900 for the Adventure AMT.
The Citroen C3 is available with two engine options – PureTech 82 and PureTech 110. The PureTech 82 uses a 1.2-litre naturally-aspirated 3-cylinder engine. The motor makes 82 PS of power at 5,750 rpm and 115 Nm of torque at 3,750 rpm. The engine is only available with a 5-speed manual gearbox. Citroen also claims a fuel efficiency of 19.8 km/l. The other engine option, the PureTech 110, uses a 1.2-litre 3-cylinder turbo-petrol engine. The motor produces 110 PS of power at 5,500 rpm and 190 Nm of torque at 1,750 rpm. The PureTech 110 comes with a 6-speed gearbox as standard. An automatic gearbox is not available. The claimed fuel efficiency is 19.4 km/l.
On the other hand, the Tata Punch is available with only one engine option. However, unlike the Citroen, the Punch also offers an AMT gearbox. The engine is a 1.2-litre Revotron 3-cylinder petrol unit. It also features Tata’s Dyna-Pro technology. The motor produces 86 PS of power at 6,000 rpm and 113 Nm of torque at 3,300 rpm. The available gearbox options are – a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed Automated Manual Transmission (AMT). The Tata Punch also gets two drive modes – Eco and City.
The Citroen C3 comes with a Macpherson strut with a coil spring suspension at the front. Meanwhile, at the rear, Citroen equipped it with a rear twist beam with a coil spring. The braking hardware consists of disc brakes at the front and drum brakes at the back. As for the tyres, the C3 rides on 15-inch wheels with 195-section tyres.
Meanwhile, the Tata Punch’s front suspension setup consists of an Independent, lower wishbone, and Macpherson strut with coil spring. At the rear, it gets a semi-independent twist beam with a coil spring and shock absorber. Similar to the C3, the Punch also gets disc brakes at the front and drums at the back. The lower variants of the Punch ride on 15-inch rims with 185-section tyres. At the same time, the top-end variants get 16-inch rims with 195-section tyres.
The Citroen C3 measures 3,981 mm in length, 1,733 mm in width and 1,604 mm in height. The wheelbase stands at 2,540 mm. The boot space of the C3 is 315-litre, while the fuel tank capacity is 30-litre.
On the other hand, the Tata Punch measures 3,827 mm in length, 1,742 mm in width and 1,615 mm in height. The wheelbase of the Punch, at 2,445 mm, is a good 95 mm less than the C3. However, the boot space and fuel tank capacity, at 366-litre and 37-litre, are both larger than the Citroen C3.
