In a significant achievement for Citroën, the Basalt SUV has secured a commendable 4-star rating in the Bharat New Car Assessment Programme (Bharat NCAP) crash tests.
The Citroën Basalt was subjected to rigorous testing, including the Frontal Offset Deformable Barrier Test and the Side Movable Deformable Barrier Test. In the Frontal Offset Deformable Barrier Test, the Basalt scored 10.19 points out of 16, demonstrating good protection for the driver and front passenger’s head and neck. However, the test revealed marginal protection for the driver’s chest, pelvis, and legs.
In the Side Movable Deformable Barrier Test, the Basalt excelled, achieving a perfect score of 16 out of 16 points. This test evaluates the vehicle’s ability to protect occupants during a side impact, and the Basalt’s performance indicates excellent structural integrity and side-impact protection.
The Basalt scored 26.19 points out of 32 in Adult Occupant Protection (AOP), reflecting its strong safety credentials. For Child Occupant Protection (COP), the Basalt secured 35.90 points out of 49. The vehicle achieved a dynamic score of 19.90 out of 24, a child restraint system (CRS) installation score of 12 out of 12, and 4 points out of 13 for vehicle assessment.
The Citroën Basalt comes equipped with a comprehensive suite of safety features. Standard across all variants are six airbags, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Isofix anchors for child seats, and seat belt reminders for all passengers. Additionally, the Basalt includes hill-start assist, three-point seat belts for all seats, and a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS). These features collectively contribute to the vehicle’s high safety rating.
The Basalt’s 4-star rating is a testament to Citroën’s engineering prowess and dedication to passenger safety. This achievement is particularly noteworthy as the Basalt is the first model outside of Tata’s SUVs to be tested by Bharat NCAP and receive a rating of less than 5 stars. Despite this, the Basalt’s performance is impressive and sets a high standard for safety in its segment.
The Citroën Basalt’s 4-star rating in the Bharat NCAP crash tests is a significant milestone for the brand. As safety becomes an increasingly important factor for car buyers, the Basalt’s strong performance in these tests is likely to enhance its appeal in the competitive SUV market.
