Chevrolet India completes Takata airbag recall of 12,000 Cruze sedan

Chevrolet has completed the inspection and replacement of airbags on Cruze sedans affected because of the Takata Airbag Recall. The announcement of the Takata Airbag recall took place on 25th February 2019 affecting more than 12,000 Chevrolet Cruze sedans. Customers owning the Chevrolet Cruze may Chevrolet dealerships to get their vehicles inspected. Vehicles under the recall will be getting their airbags replaced at no cost to the customer.

Affected Models

The Chevrolet Cruze from the model year 2009 to 2017 may have the Takata Airbag recall. Customers can check if the vehicle is under the recall service by logging on to the official website or by calling the Chevrolet call centre at 1800 208 8080 to make an appointment. While Chevrolet announces that the brand has finished the inspection and replacement of the faulty airbags on more than 12,000 Cruze sedans a handful are still remaining. Customers who may not have had the opportunity to get their vehicles to the dealerships. The inspection and replacement for the airbag are free of charge and the brand urges leftover customers to get their vehicles to the dealerships as early as possible.

General Motors Plant Shutdown

On the eve of Christmas 2020, General Motors shut down their last plant located Talegoan Dhabade. The plant produced Chevrolet cars for exports, the Left-Hand Drive version of the Chevrolet Beat for the Mexican market. The Talegaon factory was General Motors only remaining production plants in India. The brand already sold its Halol plant to SAIC-owned Morris Garages for the production of MG cars in India.

General Motors shut down its domestic operations in 2017. But Chevrolet India has confirmed that the company will provide aftersales service in India beyond 2021. Currently, Chevrolet has its service centres in 142 Indian cities which include 165 service workshops and 20 parts distributors. Chevrolet also has a technical support team and a dedicated field team to service Chevrolet cars in India.
