Aprilia has launched the GPR 250S for the Chinese market. Though the name does not say it, it is basically the Tuono 250 we hope to see in more markets. The bike borrows its underpinnings and powertrain from the Aprilia RS 250. It is unlikely that the Italian brand will launch the motorcycle in India, but we still hope they do. Reports of a new generation model of the naked streetfighter started surfacing last year.
Aprilia is known for its racing pedigree across the world and motorsport industry. The brand produces some very fast and race-focused litre-class motorcycles like the RSV4 and the Tuono.
The new motorcycle is very different from the model it replaces. The bike gets an entirely different front end design that is similar to the older litre-class Tuono. Unlike a typical naked motorcycle, the GPR 250S gets a semi-faired design. The front and side fairing of the bike not only increases the aesthetic appeal but also helps the aerodynamics. The lower part of the fairing also gets a larger radiator shroud.
Additionally, the motorcycle gets a muscular-looking fuel tank, raised tail section, and a windscreen. The seats sport a single-seat design and not a split seat. The sides feature new graphics to increase the sporty appeal further. The engine, chassis and swingarm also get a blacked-out design. The exhaust is not visible as it is an underbelly one and protected by a large belly pan.
The Aprilia GPR 250S uses a 249cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine, the same as the RS 250. The engine’s power output of 27.5 HP at 9000 rpm and 21.5 Nm at 7500 rpm is identical to the RS 250. The power is sent to the rear wheels using a 6-speed manual gearbox.
The GPR 250S uses a 41mm upside-down fork at the front and a swingarm-mounted monoshock at the rear. It rides on 17-inch wheels with a 100/80 section tyre at the front and a 130/70 one at the rear. Braking is done by single discs at the front and rear. In addition to this, it also gets dual-channel ABS.
