Written by Kanad Kalasur

Mercedes-Benz has collaborated with Microsoft to offer an enhanced voice control system using Chat GPT. According to the carmaker this AI-based tool will allow customers to do more using the voice assist.

Chat GPT beta in USA for Mercedes-Benz owners

Mercedes-Benz owners in the US can enrol into the beta program using the Mercedes Me app. Further, users will also be able to sign up to the beta using the voice assistant as well. The command to this is “Hey, Mercedes, I want to join the beta program”.

The carmaker aims to use Microsoft’s controlled cloud environment and Chat GPT to enhance the customer experience. The beta program will also incorporate existing Hey Mercedes functions. These include questions regarding navigation, weather and others.

Thanks to Chat GPT, the voice assistant will be able to process many more requests. For instance, the standard voice assist has a limited number of commands and responses. Chat GPT will be able to expand these significantly.

According to the German carmaker, apart from navigational tasks, Chat GPT will also help drivers if they ask about their destination, suggestions for dinner and other complex queries. Users will also benefit from keeping their hands on the wheels and focus on driving instead of using their mobile phone. The Intelligent AI will also be able to hold a conversation and deal with follow-up queries to questions.

Beta Program : More Details

Based on Microsoft’s enterprise cloud and AI capabilities, Mercedes will use the Chat GPT based system for a trial period of three months. The system first anonymises user data before sending it in the Intelligent Cloud for analysis.

The data hence gathered will be assimilated for development of voice control, customer focus in other countries as well as issue voice assistants in different languages. That said, the carmaker has not yet revealed any timeline for the project implementation post this beta program.
