Making things a little bit easier in times when you need a quick charge or emergency, Hyundai has announced the new V2V charging capability for the Kona electric SUV. The Kona is the first such electric SUV in India with a genuine long range driving capability and the closest competitor the MG ZS EV is still a month of two away from market debut.
With the new V2V (Vehicle-to-Vehicle) charging option, one Kona car owner can charge his / her Kona via another such model, anywhere & anytime. Hyundai is initially going to kick start this program by sending a Kona electric to back you up once you share your location. This initiative is coming to our service in association with Allianz Worldwide Partners and only in select cities including Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru & Chennai. The Allianz Truck will also allow for portable charging in Delhi and Bengaluru via RSA.
Hyundai has also set up 7.2 kW AC chargers at all of their 15 electric car dealerships across 11 cities which are retailing the Kona to customers. Apart from this, the car maker is also providing a 7.2 kW charger to all customers which will help them have their Kona charged and ready in 6-8 hours.
The Hyundai Kona electric SUV comes with a driving range of 452 km on a full charge. The Kona is actually the first reasonable EV for the Indian audience, as all other EVs we saw before had insignificant driving range making it impossible for commuters to accept it as a daily drive. Hyundai so far has clocked over 302 bookings for the Kona EV since launch in July 2019 and 231 units have already been delivered.
Hyundai has tested the Kona in extreme weather conditions as low as -30°C in Sweden. The Kona is a global product and the battery pack claims to have a life cycle of 2000 charges and has a 8-year warranty. Hyundai is targeting to push more than 46,000 Kona electric SUVs worldwide in this year.
