Build Your Dreams or BYD currently has two EV offerings in India. The BYD Seal sedan has been spotted testing on the outskirts of Chennai which indicates that this could be BYD’s next offering for India. Sources indicate that the Seal sedan could hit the market as early as March 2024. That’s not all, dealers too have started taking unofficial bookings for the Seal further confirming the rumours.

BYD Seal EV – What to Expect?

The Seal EV sedan was first showcased in India at Auto Expo 2023. It garnered a lot of attention from the media and the expo visitors. The BYD Seal will come with two powertrain options, and the top variant boasts an impressive range of up to 700km. This sedan marks BYD’s third product for the Indian market. Drawing inspiration from BYD’s Ocean X concept, it follows the brand’s “ocean aesthetics” design philosophy.

In terms of design, the Seal measures 4,800mm in length, 1,875mm in width, and 1,460mm in height. Externally, the Seal features a coupe-like all-glass roof, flush-fitting door handles, distinct LED daytime running lights, split headlamp design, and a full-width LED light bar at the rear.

Inside, the Seal offers a rotating 15.6-inch infotainment display, akin to the Atto 3 SUV and e6 MPV. There is also a separate 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a head-up display. The central touchscreen is surrounded by AC vents, with drive selector and mode buttons placed below. Gloss black inserts adorn the interior, complemented by contrasting dashboard shades and speakers integrated into the door handles.

Battery Options

The Seal will be available with two battery options globally: a 61.4 kWh unit with up to 500 km range and an 82.5 kWh unit offering up to 700km range. Both batteries support fast charging, with the larger one capable of speeds up to 150 kW. In terms of powertrain, there are single-motor and dual-motor options. Indian models are expected to feature the dual-motor, all-wheel-drive setup, delivering 530 hp and achieving a claimed 0-100kph time of 3.8 seconds.

While unofficial bookings have already begun, deliveries will commence after the official price announcement, expected to start around ₹45 lakh. With the Seal, BYD aims to compete with models like the Kia EV6 and Hyundai Ioniq 5.
