BYD recently launched the Seal sports electric sedan in the Indian market. The all-electric sedan comes with a starting price tag of just INR 41 lakh ex–showroom and comes with three variants. In addition to this, the futuristic and feature-rich car also offers sports car-like performance, plush ride quality and world class safety with full 5-Stars for safety from ANCAP as well as Euro NCAP.
Now, we got to thoroughly road test the BYD Seal EV in India, bringing you a comprehensive review. In this three part review, we talk about the BYD Seal EVs ultra-modern exteriors, novel interiors and its on-road performance, including its range, power delivery and ride comfort. But first let dive into the available variants, colours and the price of the BYD Seal EV.
The BYD Seal sports EV is available in India in three variants – Dynamic, Premium and Performance. All three variants come with different power outputs and battery range. The price obviously also varies. The entry level Dynamic trim comes with a price tag of INR 41 lakh ex-showroom.
The mid-spec Premium variant which we drove for this road test comes with a price tag of INR 45.55 lakh ex-showroom. The top-of-the-line Performance variant which comes with Squirrel Cage Induction Asynchronous Motor on the front and a Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM) on the rear has a price tag of INR 53 lakh ex-showroom.
The Seal Sedan comes with four colour options – Arctic Blue, Aurora White, Atlantis Gray and Cosmos Black.
Powering the BYD Seal sports electric sedan are two powertrain options. The BYD Seal in the Dynamic variant features a 150 kW/310 Nm PMSM and comes with rear wheel drive. The variant gets a 61.4 kWh battery pack with a claimed range of 510 km on the NEDC cycle. The mid-spec Premium variant comes with a 230 kW / 360 Nm PMSM with rear wheel drive and a larger 82.5 kW battery pack offering an NEDC range of 650 km.
The top-spec Performance variant comes with 160 kW / 310 Nm front and 230 kW / 360 Nm rear dual electric motor setup with all-wheel drive claiming an impressive 0-100 kmph acceleration timing of 3.8 seconds. The Performance variant also coms with an 81.56 kWH battery pack but offers a lesser 580 km of NEDC range.
In addition to the high performance electric motor and its proprietary BYD Blade Battery the BYD Seal also boasts a perfect 50:50 weight distribution. This means that the BYD Seal EV offers a stronger sense of control and also changes lanes surgically even at high speeds.
The BYD Seal EV is sold through the company’s network of 27 dealerships in the Indian market. Customers can also inquire about the BYD Seal on the official website. Also, the bookings for the BYD Seal EV are now open and customers can now book the BYD Seal sports electric sedan by putting down a booking amount of INR 125,000/-.
