BYD launches electric T3 MPV & T3 Minivan in India

BYD stands for Built Your Dreams. BYD India is a subsidiary of the BYD Group from China claiming to be the largest electric vehicle manufacturers. BYD has introduced two products for the Indian market, but have not yet revealed any price details. BYD has launched the T3 pure electric passenger MPV and a T3 pure electric logistics minivan in India.

The BYD T3 measures 4460mm in length, 1720mm in width, 1875mm in height, 2725mm in wheelbase and has a kerb weight of 1870 kg for the 7-seater MPV and 1700 kg for the 2-seater Minivan. Powering the T3 series is a 50.3 kWh BYD NCM Battery coupled to a AC PMSM motor. This electric drivetrain produces a max power of 70 kW and 180 Nm of torque. The brand claims a charging time of 1.3 hours with a DC 40 kW charger and 7.6 hours with an AC 6.6 kW charger. The BYD T3 has a top speed of 100 kmph and can drive for 300 km on a full charge. Backed with all-4 disc brakes, the T3 also benefits from regenerative braking.

BYD is not planning to have direct to consumer sales at the moment, but will target B2B and public transport sector.

Features on the BYD T3 MPV and T3 Minivan include keyless entry, button start / stop system, music system with bluetooth, reverse parking camera, parking sensors, automatic gearbox, ABS, Electric Parking System, Brake Override System, EBD and vehicle management via CANbus.

BYD claims that operating their T3 series can result in saving of fuel of almost 5 passenger cars, even emissions reduction in the same tune.

Now, how would you compare the BYD T3 pure electric vehicle? Is this a Maruti Suzuki Ertiga rival? Or is this an electric Innova competition? Or is this just a glorified rival to the Maruti Suzuki Eeco? Whatever it might be, the BYD T3 surely looks more stylish than the Nissan Evalia.
