Warren Buffett-backed automaker BYD recently announced the opening of its first showroom in New Delhi for passenger vehicles in India. The showroom managed by Landmark BYD is the fourth BYD dealership showroom in India. Landmark BYD will offer consumers in the capital to enjoy BYD’s pure electric vehicles. With a vast experience in the automobile industry, Landmark BYD also has an extensive reach. All thanks to its expansive network, which covers the neighbouring regions.
Spread over an area of 6,600 square feet, this state-of-the-art 3S facility is one of the largest for BYD in India. The facility houses fully-trained technicians, service equipment, service bays, as well as EV charging stations. Moreover, there’s also a customer lounge area and a showroom display floor that work together to provide customers with the best in-store experience in the region. The strategic location of the store in South Delhi, abutting the border of Faridabad (Haryana) and Noida (Uttar Pradesh), will also play a major role.
The New Delhi NCR region is one of the emerging and largest EV markets in the country. Thus, this makes it a key market for BYD India. New Delhi has immense potential for premium passenger vehicles, thanks to the Central Government’s push for an EV reform. BYD has also planned an additional 18,000 charging stations that will come up across the city by 2024. The long-term goal is to have one station for every 15 electric vehicles inside the city. The addition of this store sets up the foundation stone for what is about to come from BYD in India. With the targets and infrastructure BYD aims to become the main contributor to EV adoption in the EPV segments.
The Indian government is on the target of achieving 30 per cent EV penetration for the PV segment by 2030. Meanwhile, the aim by the end of 2070 is to achieve net-zero emissions. Driven by these goals, BYD has a lot of plans to work closely with its partners. Thus, all of these will add up to provide localised green products for the Indian market.
The Delhi government introduced an EV Policy in August 2020. This marks a significant step towards cutting down on the city’s pollution. It’s no secret that the largest chunk of the pollution comes from vehicle emissions. Thus, this policy encourages more EV adoption. Consumers get subsidies and exemptions from paying registration fees and road tax that make EVs more desirable.
