Chinese carmaker Build Your Dreams (BYD) has now introduced its all-electric e6 MPV for private buyers in the Indian market. Prices for this EV start at INR 29.15 lakh (ex-showroom). The MPV is available in two variants, namely, GL and GLX, wherein the latter gets an AC fast charging option. The BYD e6 MPV first came to India last year at the same price. But it was then only available to commercial and fleet buyers. However, now with the entry into the private passenger vehicle segment, the e6 is the only available full-electric MPV one can buy in India.
The BYD e6 comes with LFP’ Blade’ Batteries, which is a patented technology developed by FinDreams, a BYD subsidiary. Blade batteries offer efficient packaging and better energy density when compared to conventional LFP cells and hence are a sought-after technology. In fact, Blade Batteries are also one of the USPs for BYD.
The e6 MPV makes use of the carmaker’s e-platform and equips a 71.7kWh lithium-iron-phosphate battery. The battery sends power to a single front-axle-mounted electric motor. The performance figure reads as 95 HP and 180 Nm. With the above mechanicals, the e6 can reach a maximum top speed of 130kph. One of the key highlights of the e6 is its claimed range. BYD claims a combined WLTC range of 415km on a single charge. Noteworthy to mention, this should not be confused with the more rigorous WLTP test cycle.
The MPV also gets a regenerative braking system. Additionally, it also supports DC fast charging. With this, the MPV can juice up from 30 to 80 per cent in 35 minutes, and a full charge takes 90 minutes. The higher GLX trim also allows owners to use a 40kW wall-mounted AC fast charger. This enables a full charge in just two hours. Meanwhile, the 6.6kW AC slow chargers can do the job in roughly 12 hours.
In terms of equipment, the e6 MPV gets a long list of features. The key ones include LED DRLs, leather seats, 6-way adjustable driver and front passenger seats. There’s also in-built navigation and a 10.1-inch rotatable touchscreen with Bluetooth and WiFi, and a CN95 air filtration system on offer.
