BYD (Build Your Dreams) could be ready launch its first ICE vehicle in India, the Bao 5 SUV by Diwali 2024. This move is expected to capitalize on the positive consumer sentiment during the festive period, making it a strategic entry for the Chinese automaker.
The BYD Bao 5 is a luxury off-road SUV that has already made waves in China and Europe. Known for its robust design and advanced features, the Bao 5 is inspired by iconic models like the Ford Bronco and Land Rover Defender. It boasts a commanding presence with its upright front fascia, boxy rear, tall pillars, and prominent wheel arches.
Under the hood, the Bao 5 features a 1.5L four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine paired with dual electric motors and a 31.8 kWh LFP Blade battery pack. This plug-in hybrid system delivers an impressive 677 hp and 760 Nm of torque, enabling the SUV to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.8 seconds. The vehicle also supports 100 kW DC fast charging and offers an electric-only range of 125 km.
The interior of the Bao 5 is equally impressive, featuring two 12.3-inch displays and a 15.6-inch central display. The SUV is designed to provide a luxurious experience with ample space and advanced technology. It also includes modern safety features and driver assistance systems, making it a well-rounded vehicle for both urban and off-road adventures.
In India, the Bao 5 is expected to be positioned in the luxury segment, with an estimated price tag of over INR 70 lakh (ex-showroom). This pricing strategy aligns with BYD’s approach to offer premium vehicles that combine performance, luxury, and sustainability.
Launching the Bao 5 during Diwali could be a strategic move by BYD to tap into the festive buying spree. BYD aims to leverage this period to establish a strong foothold in the Indian market.
