Yamaha has confirmed via their social media accounts to prospective buyers that the YZF-R3 will be launched in the updated avatar and with the BSVI engine in December 2019. The YZF-R3 was launched with ABS back in 2018, and almost 2 years later, the bike gets a mega update in terms of cosmetics and even hardware. For 2020, the Yamaha YZF-R3 will continue to be brought in as CKD kits. We hope that Yamaha rework on their pricing strategy as the outgoing model costed well over INR 4 lakh on-road here in India. With the additions, we hope the pricing at least stays the same, if not less.
The 2020 Yamaha YZF-R3 will come with an all-new front fairing, new full LED headlamp, new bubble shaped windscreen, 37mm USD front forks, 50/50 weight distribution, cross-layered body panels, central air duct for better cooling, a new full digital speedometer cluster and new body colours.
Powering the 2020 YZF-R3 is a 321cc, liquid-cooled, 4-stroke, DOHC, parallel-twin, BSVI compliant petrol engine which will produce 42.0 PS of power @ 10750 RPM and 29.6 Nm of torque @ 9000 RPM matched to a 6-speed gearbox. Sadly, still no addition of a slipper assist clutch for the R3. Yamaha claims 3.8L /100 km of mileage on the updated model.
With full tank of fuel and all oils filled up, Yamaha claims the new 2020 YZF-R3 weights 169 kg, has a ground clearance of 160mm and 14L of fuel tank capacity.
The 2020 Yamaha YZF-R3 will continue to rival the likes of Kawasaki Ninja 300, Benelli 302R and KTM RC 390. The YZF-R3 slots above the Yamaha YZF-R15 V3.0, but the smaller 155cc motorcycle is superior in technology as it comes with a slipper assist clutch and also variable valve actuation. Even the swing arm and chassis on the R15 V3 is technically superior, but the R3 is more of a touring + sportsbike as opposed to the R15 which is an outright track tool.
