The Mahindra-backed enterprise Classic Legends has been focussing on resurrecting defunct motorcycle brands for the Indian market, expanding its portfolio. Meanwhile, the company first introduced the defunct British motorcycle manufacturer BSA in December 2021, where they showcased the Gold Star 650. Prior to the start of 2022, BSA had stated that the Gold Star 650 would compete in the middle-weight segment. Therefore, the modern-classic motorcycle gained significant traction amongst interested customers, with BSA promising the bike’s dealership arrivals in March 2022.
Despite the assurance of dealership arrivals in March 2022, BSA has failed to secure the bikes for customers in the given time. BSA officially confirmed that it would bring the Gold Star 650 motorcycle to dealers for customers by June 2022. Sources also suggest that BSA may bring in the motorcycle a month early in order to fulfill customer expectations.
BSA also states that they are currently focussing on building their dealer network and will share details by May 2022. The motorcycle manufacturer also comments that it will begin the press reviews by April or May by showcasing the bike’s first look. However, the delay has caused a bit of disappointment amongst interested customers as there are no other reasons provided.
Being a typical middle-weight touring motorcycle, the BSA Gold Star 650 directly rivals the Royal Enfield Interceptor 650. The Gold Star 650 sports a dual-cradle chassis with a D-Loop design as the signature element of the original BSA motorcycle. In terms of suspension and handling, the motorcycle also gets 41mm front forks with twin rear shock absorbers. For braking performance, the Gold Star 650 features a single 320mm front disc and a single 255mm rear disc.
BSA has equipped the motorcycle with original Lucas lamps out front with modern LED technology and a twin-pot instrument cluster. Meanwhile, the Gold Star 650 features the 652cc, single-cylinder, four-valve DOHC motor with twin spark plugs and liquid cooling technology. Thanks to this, the motor develops 45 PS of power and 55 Nm of torque via a 5-speed manual transmission. BSA has developed the engine by collaborating with the Technical University of Graz to conform to the latest emission standards.
