Kawasaki has teased the Ninja 400 ahead of its India launch. With the teaser video, we can also safely assume that the new model will arrive at our shores very soon. Kawasaki has not released many details about the product. Kawasaki also sold the previous iteration of the model in India. However, it was in limited numbers only. We also expect the same with the upcoming BS6-compliant version. The model is already available in the international market.
Powering the Ninja 400 is a 399cc liquid-cooled parallel-twin engine. The motor makes 44 BHP and 37 Nm of peak torque. The power output is the same, although the torque has gone up by 1 Nm from the previous model. It also uses the same six-speed gearbox with a slip and assist clutch. The mechanical upgrades are in tune to make it compliant with the stringent emission norms.
The exterior design and outlook are pretty much the same and remain unchanged. However, Kawasaki has given it new graphics. Its trademark sharp twin-pod headlight setup will continue to grab attention. Other key design highlights include fairing-integrated front turn indicators, a split-style seat, a muscular 14-litre fuel tank, and fairing-mounted rear-view mirrors. It also gets a side-slung exhaust with a dual-tone finish. For the international market, the Ninja 400 is available in two colours – Lime Green with Ebony (KRT Edition) and Metallic Carbon Grey with Metallic Matte Carbon Grey. We will likely get the Lime Green with Ebony (KRT Edition) for the Indian market.
As for the pricing, the previous trim retailed at an ex-showroom price of INR 4.98 lakh. With the mechanical upgrades and changes, we expect a higher price tag than the outgoing model. Once it hits the market, it will go against the other options in the 400cc segment. This includes the likes of the KTM RC/Duke 390 and Bajaj Dominar 400. Furthermore, it will also compete with the upcoming BMW G 310 RR and the TVS Apache RR 310.
