BMW has revealed the new 2-Series Coupe in the international market. The brand has announced that the 2-Series Coupe will come in three variants in the global market – 220i, 220d and M240i xDrive. Recently, BMW had revealed that the 2-Series Coupe was undergoing dynamic testing, which included tuning the drivetrain and suspension systems in racetrack conditions. The brand also revealed that the 2-Series Coupe would come with sporty elements leading to an emotional driving experience.
Powering the BMW 2-Series Coupe 220i is a Euro6d emission-compliant 2.0-litre four-cylinder BMW TwinPower Turbo technology engine. The twin-scroll turbocharged engine produces 184 Hp of power and 300 Nm of torque. The turbo-petrol engine comes with 8-speed Steptronic transmission. The 220i can accelerate from 0-100 kmph in just 7.5 seconds and reach a top speed of 236 kmph.
Powering the BMW 2-Series Coupe 220d is a Euro6d emission compliant 2.0-litre four-cylinder BMW TwinPower Turbo technology engine with 48V mild-hybrid technology. The multi-stage turbocharged diesel engine produces 190 Hp of power and 400 Nm of torque. The mild-hybrid system produces an additional 8kW/11Hp of power. The oil motor comes with an 8-speed Steptronic transmission that propels the 220d Coupe from 0-100 kmph in just 6.2 seconds. The 220d Coupe can also achieve a top speed of 237 kmph.
Powering the M240i xDrive Coupe is a Euro6d emission-compliant 3.0-litre in-line six-cylinder BMW TwinPower Turbo technology engine. The twin-scroll turbocharged petrol engine produces 374 Hp of power and 500 Nm of torque. The turbo-petrol engine comes with an 8-speed Steptronic Sport transmission and BMW xDrive all-wheel-drivetrain. This helps propel the car from 0-100 kmph in just 4.3 seconds and achieve a top speed limited to 250 kmph.
The new BMW 2-Series Coupe comes with a dynamic and athletic design along with sophisticated chassis technology initially developed for the 4-series coupe. The brand offers a contemporary take on the classical compact two-door concept sportscar. The BMW 2-Series Coupe features a wide track, a near-perfect balance of 50:50 weight distribution, optimised aerodynamics and enhanced body rigidity. BMW has also worked extensively in the aerodynamics department leading to a drag coefficient of just 0.26Cd.
The powerful proportions of the 2-Series Coupe are set within a traditional three-box design. The BMW 2-Series Coupe measures 4,537mm in length (4,528mm M240i xDrive), 1,838mm in width and 1,390mm in height. The car is 105mm longer and 64mm wider than the predecessor. It is also 28mm lower in height and comes with a 51mm longer wheelbase, which is now 2,741mm. The boot of the car also offers 390-litres of space which is 20-litres more than the predecessor.
The BMW 2-Series Coupe comes with features such as a newly designed BMW kidney grille with active air flap control. The car also gets individual circular headlights recalling the BMW 02 models. BMW also offers full-LED headlamps, sculpted LED taillights as standard and adaptive LED headlights with BMW Selective Beam as an option. Apart from the sporty proportions, the 2-Series Coupe also gets M exterior mirror caps.
On the inside, the BMW 2-Series Coupe features a Sport leather steering wheel with newly designed buttons, Sports seats, backlit door panel trim, easy entry function, individual seat character on the rear seats, 40:20:40 split on the rear seats and three-zone climate control as standard. Optional features include BMW Live Cockpit Professional and BMW Heads-Up Display.
The brand has announced that BMW will produce the new 2-Series Coupe at BMW Group’s San Luis Potosí plant in Mexico. The brand also revealed that the car will make its market debut at the beginning of 2022.
