According to media reports, BMW could be planning to introduce the CE02 electric scooter in the Indian market soon. The BMW CE02 is sort of a cross between a motorcycle and a scooter and comes with an electric powertrain. Media reports reveal that a test mule of the CE02, sans camouflage has been spotted testing around Bengaluru. Reports also reveal that the test mule appears in a production-ready avatar.
In addition to this, reports reveal that this is not the first time the EV has been spied testing leading to the belief that the brand will soon launch the electric scooter in India. However, it is important to note that BMW Motorrad manufactures the electric scooter at TVS’ Hosur production facility in Tamil Nadu and the test mules could only be out for real world testing, endurance testing and/or quality control.
The BMW Motorrad CE02 is a full-sized electric scooter with a starting price tag of USD 7,599 MSRP in the United States. The CE02 comes with a 15 Hp output electric motor. The bike also gets two removable battery packs with around 90 km of range on a single charge. The scooter is also capable of achieving a top speed of 95 kmph.
BMW Motorrad offers the CE02 with features including an LCD instruments cluster and LED lighting. The electric scooter also comes with an upside down front suspension and a mono shock on the rear. The scooter also comes with a 296mm disc brake on the front with ABS.
It has been more than a decade since TVS and BMW Motorrad signed a long-term strategic partnership. Under the partnership, the brand’s manufacture sub-500cc motorcycles for the global market. As a result of the partnership, the T310 platform was born which resulted in the production of the BMW G 310 R, BMW 310 GS, BMW G 310 RR and TVS Motor Company’s TVS Apache RR 310 and TVS Apache RTR 310. The brand retails these motorcycles in the EU, USA, Japan, China and India.
On 6th October 2023, BMW Motorrad also announced the start of production of the BMW CE 02 at the TVS Motor Company’s Hosur production plant. Currently, the CE 02 is only being exported. However, both brands are working together to develop more sustainable mobility solutions for the Indian market.
