BMW recently introduced the i4 electric sedan for the Indian market. Priced at INR 69.90 lakh (ex-showroom), customers can now buy an additional ‘M Aerodynamic Kit’ at INR 5.99 lakh. The kit is an optional fitment that includes a high gloss black kidney grille, M Aerodynamic front and rear bumpers, and Air Breather on the front fender with accent stripes. In addition to this, this kit also adds 18-inch M Aerodynamic wheels for the i4. The price mentioned above for the Aerodynamic Kit includes labour costs. As per our understanding, this is a dealer level fitment.
Based on the 4-Series Gran Coupe, i4 uses a specially-adapted version of the CLAR architecture. The styling is similar to the 4-Series Gran Coupe from the outside. But the differentiating elements are the EV specific design elements. On the side, customers also have two upholstery options, Sensatec perforated Canberra Beige/Black and Sensatec perforated Cognac. The highlighting tech of the car is the twin-screen setup, each for the infotainment and digital instrument cluster. Other features include wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, three-zone climate control, reverse parking assist and a 17-speaker Harman Kardon Surround Sound System.
In India, BMW is selling the i4 in a single trim, which is the eDrive40. Power is fed to the rear-axle mounted electric motor that makes 340 HP and 430 Nm. 0 to 100 kmph comes under 5.7 seconds. Meanwhile, the top speed is 190 kmph. The floor-mounted lithium-ion battery pack has a total capacity of 83.9 kWh. As per the WLTP cycle, the claimed mileage for the i4 eDrive40 is 590 km. The i4 can also Fast Charge with 164 km of range in just 10 mins. Meanwhile, using a regular 11kW wall box charger, the EV charges from 0 to 100 per cent in 8.25 hours. Also, as of now, there’s no direct rival to the i4, as almost all luxury EV offerings are SUVs.
