BMW Motorrad has launched the all-new BMW R 12 nineT and the R 12 in India. Available as Completely Built-up Units (CBU), the deliveries will commence from September 2024 onwards.
The BMW R 12 nineT and the BMW R 12 embody the essence of classic motorcycles while integrating modern engineering. The R 12 nineT, a retro roadster, and the R 12, a casual cruiser, both feature a 1,170 cc 2-cylinder Boxer engine, exemplifying BMW’s commitment to maintaining the authentic character of the boxer engine.
The design highlights include a trellis frame, a flatly arranged shock absorber, and a revised engine periphery. The attention to detail is evident in features such as the intricately designed front fender bracket, the LED headlight with a black-framed light guide element on the R 12 nineT, and the high-quality instrument panel.
The heart of the R 12 models is the newly developed tubular bridge steel spaceframe, offering a lightweight yet sturdy structure. The R 12 nineT boasts an engine delivering 80 kW (109 hp) at 7,000 rpm and a maximum torque of 115 Nm at 6,500 rpm. The R 12, on the other hand, offers 70 kW (95 hp) at 6,500 rpm with a torque of 110 Nm at 6,000 rpm.
The rear frame, also made of tubular steel, complements the main frame, enhancing the bikes’ overall aesthetic and performance. The “Twin Pipe” exhaust system with two rear silencers in a reverse cone design adds to the classic roadster and cruiser appeal.
The BMW R 12 nineT is priced at INR 20,90,000, while the R 12 is available at INR 19,90,000. These prices are ex-showroom and inclusive of GST and compensation cess, excluding other taxes and insurance.
Both models come equipped with BMW Motorrad ABS Pro, ensuring more safety when braking in bends. They also feature Dynamic Traction Control (DTC), engine drag torque control, and Tyre Pressure Control for enhanced driving safety.
The R 12 nineT offers “Rain”, “Road”, and “Dynamic” riding modes, whereas the R 12 includes “Roll” and “Rock” modes, allowing riders to tailor the riding experience to their preferences. The standard Keyless Ride system and the adaptive Headlight Pro light system further enhance the riding experience.
Optional packages like Hill Start Control Pro, Shift Assistant Pro, heated grips, and cruise control are available as part of the Comfort package. The Option 719 “Aluminium” Style for the R 12 nineT and the Option 719 Style Avus Silver metallic for the R 12 add a touch of sophistication.
