BMW K 1600 Range – Overview

The K 1600 Bagger is meant for relaxed cruising with luxurious comfort and adventurous performance touring in true Bagger style. Meanwhile, the K 1600 Grand America is for setting a benchmark in highway cruising style and experience. It is also the flagship of the K 1600 range. The K 1600 GTL, on the other hand, represents exclusive and comfortable travelling. While the K 1600 Bagger does not get any storage options as standard, the other two, K 1600 Grand America and K 1600 GTL, come with side cases and a top case.

All of the three K 1600s have one thing in common, their powertrain. They use a 1,649cc oil- and water-cooled inline 6-cylinder engine with 4 valves per cylinder and DOHC valvetrain. The motor makes 160 HP of peak power at 6,750 rpm and a peak torque of 180 Nm at 5,250 rpm. It gets a 6-speed transmission with an anti-hopping clutch that sends power to the rear wheels via a shaft drive. All three have a fuel capacity of 26.5 litres. Also common to all three is a low seat height of 750mm.
