Finally, the first-ever BMW XM is here. BMW confirmed that the XM is now available for bookings at the BMW dealership network. Furthermore, the deliveries will commence from May 2023 onwards. This is the first-ever XM and the first standalone M model since the BMW M1. Like the legendary mid-engined sports car M1, this XM too has been developed fully independently. Thus there’s no conceptual baseline found in the BMW model range.

The first-ever BMW XM resonates the emotional potency beyond traditional norms and conventions. A unique vehicle concept, it takes inspiration from various elements of an innovative drive system and high-performance technology in a head-turning design.

2022 BMW XM Mechnicals

The XM is the first BMW M model to get a plug-in hybrid powertrain. It uses a 489 BHP 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 engine with an electric motor. This adds to a total power output of 653hp and 800Nm. This engine is linked to an 8-speed automatic gearbox. Thus sending power to all four wheels via the M xDrive system. Given the performance numbers, the XM promises a lot of fun. It can accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in under 4.3 seconds. Noteworthy to mention it can also run in pure EV mode for up to 80km. The luxury performance SUV comes equipped with a slew of high-tech hardware. This includes adaptive M suspension, electronically controlled dampers and a new 48V system.

2022 BMW XM Exterior Highlights

Very similar to the X7, the XM uses a radical design. Onlookers will appreciate the traditional BMW kidney grille. But, with the XM it is a massive unit. The XM drives on 21-inch wheels as standard with BMW offering its customers 22- or 23-inch wheels as optional.

What’s On The Inside?

Come inside, there are more surprises. The XM carries a familiar BMW layout. We have seen this with other BMW products, namely, iX and i4. The rear seating area gets an ‘M Lounge’, thus placing more of an overt focus on occupant comfort than any M car before it. In terms of features, the XM is a no slouch. The highlight ones include a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14.9-inch touchscreen running the latest iDrive 8 software. There’s ADAS tech, ambient lighting, four-zone automatic climate control, Harman Kardon surround sound system and much more.

Price, Colour And Warranty

BMW has put on a sticker price of INR 2,60,00,000 (ex-showroom) for the XM. Customers have even exciting paintwork to choose from. These are Cape York Green, Toronto Red, Mineral White, BMW Individual Dravit Grey, Black Sapphire, Marina Bay Blue and Carbon Black. The car also features BMW Individual Leather Merino upholstery in Sakhir Orange, Deep Lagoon, Silverstone and Black.

Customers will also get a standard two-year warranty for unlimited kilometres. They can opt for Repair Inclusive and can extend warranty benefits from the third year of operation to the maximum fifth year without any mileage limitation. To add to the peace of mind, BMW is offering a high-voltage battery under warranty. This is valid for eight years or up to 120,000 kilometres.

2022 BMW XM Competition

Once launched, the SUV will go against the other performance SUVs in the market. This includes the Lamborghini Urus Performante, Aston Martin DBX 707, and the Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT. Its other competitors include the likes of the Ferrari Purosangue and the Bentley Bentayga Speed.
