BMW launches i7 xDrive60 electric luxury sedan at INR 1,95,00,000

BMW has launched the seventh-generation 7 Series in India. Apart from the regular internal combustion engine version, the German carmaker has also launched the first-ever all-electric i7. The i7 xDrive60 sedan is priced at INR 1,95,00,000. The BMW i7 will take on the likes of the Mercedes-Benz EQS.

What’s new on the outside?

The new 7 Series looks unlike no other 7 Series. It gets a progressive front fascia with a very large kidney grille. On both sides of the grille are new design headlamps. The headlamps now get a split design, with the top portion housing the LED daytime running lights with the main beams located below. Apart from this, the car also gets new alloy wheels and horizontal LED tail lamps.

What’s new on the inside?

The new 7 Series comes with a large 14.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system. For the driver, BMW has equipped the car with a full-colour, 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster. The steering wheel design is new as well and gets a flat-bottom feature. There are also touch-sensitive controls on the centre console. Apart from it, there is a gear selector and a rotary iDrive controller. The party piece, however, is the massive 31.3-inch 8K resolution screen for the rear occupants. The screen is mounted on the roof, and there are 5.5-inch touchscreens on the rear door handles to control the same.

Powertrain of the new BMW i7

Dual electric motors power the BMW i7. These are rated at a combined output of 536 BHP and 755 Nm of peak torque. There is a 101.7 kWh battery which offers a WLTP range of 625 km on a single charge.

In terms of performance, BMW claims that the i7 has a brisk 0-100 km/h time of just 4.7 seconds. Meanwhile, the sedan’s top speed has been electronically restricted to 239 km/h.

Coming to charging times, the 101.7 kWh battery can be fully charged in 10.5 hours using an 11 kW AC charger or 5 hours using a 22 kW AC charger. For those wanting to use fast chargers, the BMW i7 supports a 195 kW DC charger, adding 170 km of range in just 10 minutes.
