BMW introduces blind spot sensors for C 650 Sport and C 650 GT scooters

As we spoke about blind spots last time, even motorcycles have blind spots.

A rider cannot see much through the motorcycle mirrors. BMW has solved this problem for its C 650 Sport and C 650 GT by updating the bikes with an optional ‘Side View Assist’ – A blind spot warning system.

The rear view mirrors have been integrated with a yellow warning triangle and the bike is planted with ultrasound sensors at the front and rear of the scooter which detects objects in the blind spot. These sensors detect the speed of following vehicles around the motorcycle within a 5 meter radius. If the difference in speed of the bike and the following vehicle is more than 10 kmph, a yellow triangle signal is flashed on the rear view mirror whichever side the vehicle is. The system works when the scooter is traveling between 25-80 kmph.

This is a very intelligent system introduced by BMW. Especially for motorcycles to change lanes on the highway. BMW claims it is the world’s first blind spot sensor on two wheelers.
