BMW i8 coming next year

BMW has been on a product offensive this year and launched multiple products including all-new models, facelifts etc. Now, the company has revealed that it will launch the i8 sportscar in India by January 2015.

The i8 hybrid sportscar was revealed at the 2014 Indian Auto Expo and looks nothing less than brilliant. Powering the BMW i8, you have a combination of an electric and a petrol motor. The front axle is powered by the electric motor with 131 BHP of power output while the rear axle is driven by a 1.5L, TwinTurbo, 3-cylinder petrol engine with 231 BHP of power output. Total torque produced is in the range of 320 Nm and the i8 can accelerate from 0-100 kmph in 4.4 seconds with fuel consumption rated at just 2.1 litres / 100 km. The all-wheel drive i8 gets the typical 3 driving modes such as comfort, eco proand sport.

In pure electric more, the car can achieve a top speed of 120 kmph, while with the combined power output from both the motors, the i8 can achieve a maximum speed of 250 kmph.

Features include scissor doors, LED & laser headlamp, LED tail lamps, 20″ alloy wheels, sharply styled front and rear bumpers, elongated kidney grille, sharkfin antenna, futuristic dashboard, 3-spoke steering wheel with contrast stitching, ceramic application on gearshift lever, ambient lighting, ‘i Blue’ accents on the brake callipers and much more.

The i8 measures 4,689mm in length, 1,942mm in width, 1,298mm in height and has a wheelbase of 2,800mm.
