BMW group witnessing strong sales growth in India

BMW Group has been on a roll in India. The German automotive group reported strong sales and its best ever half-year, quarter and June in 2023. All brands in the Group, including BMW, Mini and BMW Motorrad reported positive numbers across the board.

BMW Group Sales numbers

In the first six months of the year, BMW and Mini sales stood at 5,867 units, while the Motorrad division clocked 4,667 bikes. In terms of cars, BMW models reported 5,476 units with Mini claiming 391 units.

Amongst the BMW numbers, SAVs – or Sports Activity Vehicles, contributed to over 50 percent of total volumes. These included the recently launched BW X1. The new X5 SUV will also contribute to these numbers.

In the sedan space, the BMW 3 Series Gran Limousine clocked in 20 share amongst all the sedans in the carmaker’s line-up.

Coming to electrics, the BMW stable has a wide range of offerings for the customers. These include BMW i7, BMW iX, BMW i4 and Mini SE. Compared to January-June 2022, the January-June 2023 numbers are 11X higher. BMW iX holds the distinction of being the highest selling BEV in the luxury car segment in India. BMW has a 35-strong city wide dealer network along with charging infra.

In the premium segment, BMW 7 Series, BMW i7, BMW X7 and XM sales have more than doubled. They reported a hike of 128 percent. Uniquely, due to high demand, the BMW 7 Series, BMW i7 and BMW X7 reportedly have a four-month waiting period.

Mini Sales numbers

Mini reported 391 units which is a hike of 3 percent compared to last year’s numbers. The Countryman had a 63 percent share with the Mini coming in at 20 percent. The all-electric Mini SE is the 3rd highest selling Mini model in India with 14 percent share.

BMW Motorrad Sales numbers

Finally, the motorcycle division – BMW Motorrad had a 50 percent growth with a total figure of 4,667 units. Amongst these, 90 percent models were the locally made BMW G 310 R, BMW G 310 RR and BMW G 310 GS. Other top selling models include BMW S 1000 RR, BMW R 1250 GS / GSA and BMW C 400 GT scooter.
