BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe and M8 spied in India, launch soon?

BMW has imported a few units of the BMW M8 and the 840i Gran Coupe in India which leads us to believe that the brand may be planning to launch the cars soon in the Indian market. The launch could have been delayed due to the recent COVID-19 outbreak and the appearance of ‘Register Your Interest’ tab on the BMW India official website shows that the launch is expected soon.

Recent Spy Shots of the BMW 840i Gran Coupe and the M8 have been circulating on the internet and the car is likely to be shown to a few select customers in India. However, only the 840i Gran Coupe the four-door model is likely to go on sale in the Indian market and the BMW India official website only shows the Gran Coupe and not the two-door M8 or the M8 convertible. In the international market, the ‘8’ is available in the 8 Series Gran Coupe, 8 Series Coupe and 8 Series Convertible and their M spec performance variations.

If the brand plans to launch the 8 Series Gran Coupe in India it is likely to come with a 3.0-litre turbocharged straight-six petrol motor which produces 340 hp of power and 500 Nm of torque or an optional 3.0-litre straight-six diesel engine which develops 320 hp of power and 680 Nm of torque. The performance-spec M variant of the 8 Series is powered by a 4.4-litre turbocharged V8 engine that produces 530 hp of power and can sprint from 0-100 kmph in 3.9 seconds. The 8 Series cars will come with an 8-speed Steptronic sport automatic transmission as standard.

In terms of styling, the 840i Gran Coupe features an angular kidney grille, LED headlamp unit, LED taillights, a muscular bonnet with raised character lines, a large air dam with a splitter style bumper, boot integrated spoiler, aero ducts on the rear bumper, chrome exhaust outlets, chrome window sills and large alloy wheels. On the inside, the 840i Gran Coupe comes with fully digital driver’s display and central infotainment system laced with BMW’s latest telematics.

When launched, the BMW 840i Gran Coupe will be the brand’s most premium offering in India and is expected to be priced around the INR 1.5 crore mark.
