Just like other siblings from the Benelli stable, the 302R (previously dubbed as the Tornado 302) would be imported from China. Bikes up to 600cc are brought to India via China while the bigger models – TNT 899 onwards are brought in from Italy. DSK Motowheels has confirmed that this first fully faired motorcycle from the stable would be launched around the festive season of 2016.
One unit of the Benelli 302R has been imported from China for a declared value of Rs. 1.76 lakh. This bike is brought in as a CBU, but the model to be launched would be assembled via the CKD route, just like its sibling TNT 300.
Powering the 302R would be a 300cc, in-line twin-cylinder, 4-stroke, 4-valve, liquid-cooled, DOHC petrol motor producing 36 BHP @ 12,000 RPM and 27 Nm @ 9,000 RPM matched to a 6-speed gearbox.
Also, this could be the first DSK Benelli model to come equipped with ABS from day 1 given that the safety feature would become mandatory from 2017 onwards.
Our only wish is that since the 302R is based on the TNT 300, we hope that the exhaust note is just as good, or amplified further. This would surely be a selling point when compared against other established models such as the Kawasaki Ninja 300 & Yamaha YZF-R3.
