Bajaj’s electric Chetak scooter production crosses 2 lakh milestone

Bajaj has crossed the 2 lakh sales milestone in the Indian market in addition to the monthly sales of 16,691 units which the brand sold in June 2024. Also, the brand plans to soon expand its sales network to over 600 showrooms which will help gain more sales numbers in the near future. In the initial stages of its retail, the Bajaj Chetak electric scooter was sold from KTM showrooms and was limited to just two cities Bengaluru and Pune.

The Bajaj Chetak was launched just months before the COVID 19 pandemic and understandably the sale number were initially slow. In the first 15 months of its launch Bajaj managed to retail only 1,587 units and total sales of FY 2022 were 8,187 units. However, the sales number rose to 31,485 units in the last fiscal. The brand also introduced two new variants of the Chetak electric, and now has a total of 3 variants. This includes the Chetak 2901 which is the base variant and comes with a price tag of INR 95,998 ex-showroom, a mid-spec Urbane variant which comes with a price tag of INR 1.23 lakh ex-showroom and a top-of-the-line Premium variant priced at INR 1.47 lakh ex-showroom.

Powering the Bajaj Chetak 2901 is a 2.88 kWh battery that offers 123 km of range on a single charge. The electric scooter in its base variant also offers a top speed of 63 kmph. The Premium variant comes with a 3.2 kWh battery provides a range of 127 km on a single charge and a top speed of 73 kmph.

While the Ola Electric remains the market leader in India, and SIAM (Society of Automotive Manufacturers) data also reveals that TVS sold 1,89,896 units in FY 2024 coming in second place. Also, Bajaj sold 1,15,627 units in the same fiscal standing in at third place and Ather Energy comes fourth with 1,07,894 units sold in FY 2024.
