Bajaj has introduced the BS6 compliant range of the RE, Maxima and Maxima Cargo in the Indian market which claims to be the country’s widest range of commercial three-wheelers with BS6 emission compliant engines. The brand now has 14 variants across the RE, Maxima and Maxima Cargo range in petrol, diesel and alternate fuels.
The engine powering the RE is now a BS6 compliant petrol engine which is also offered in alternate fuels such as CNG and LPG. The petrol engine is a 236cc engine with new Fuel Injection technology. The larger displacement engine retains the performance and efficiency figures while conforming to the new stringent emission norms.
To put things into perspective the outgoing RE comes with a 198.88cc 4-stroke engine that produces 10.1 hp of power and 17 Nm of torque on the petrol fuel, 9.3 hp of power and 16 Nm of torque on the LPG fuel and 8.78 hp of power and 14.5 Nm of torque on the CNG fuel variant. All the three models are matched to a 4-speed forward transmission with 1 reverse gear. The RE also comes with a 470cc diesel engine which has been reworked to meet BS6 compliance and to do that it employs an EGR and catalytic converter system. The outgoing model with the diesel engine produces 8.36 hp of power and 24 Nm of torque mated to a 5-speed forward and 1 reverse gear.
The Maxima Cargo series models are also powered by the new 470cc diesel engine that comes with a large cargo bed. The Maxima Cargo measures in at 3230mm in length, 1493mm in width, 1818mm in height and a wheelbase of 2125mm. The kerb weight on the three-wheeler is 528 kgs and it has a gradeability of 18%.
Bajaj also offers 3 full services including labour, filter and oil change. Bajaj currently dominates the overall three wheeler category with a 58% domestic market share as per financial year 2019-20.
