The Bajaj Chetak electric scooter gets an updated range. As per the company, the electric scooter’s range is all set to increase. From the proclaimed Indian Driving Conditions (IDC) of 90 km to 108 km. This increase in the range figure is a good 20 per cent jump. And with this, it should finally put Chetak on level terms with its competitors.
As per the document, we understand the model’s battery capacity remains the same. Thus we assume Bajaj has done something with the Battery Management Software to achieve this higher number.
Currently, the Chetak is the only electric scooter in Bajaj’s lineup. In fact, it is also the one that posts the lowest sales numbers currently. Partly because of Bajaj’s generous price tag and also due to its previous low range which was a claimed 90 km. But there are some key features of this scooter. This helps it to differentiate itself from the rest. First is that it is the only metal-bodied e-scooter of the lot. Second is the neo-retro design, which has taken inspiration from the petrol-powered Bajaj Chetak scooter of the previous year.
Currently, Bajaj has not made any statement regarding the pricing of the scooter after this range update. Thus at this moment, we are not sure if Bajaj will hike the prices. If at all, Bajaj chooses to do so, it will make the pricey Chetak even more far-fetched for some customers. For your reference currently, the Chetak electric scooter retails at an ex-showroom price of INR 1.52 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi, excluding all subsidies). With the generous price tag, Chetak is finding it difficult to compete against the likes of its rivals. We hope Bajaj has some other plans and to launch an EV offering with a more aggressive price tag. This will attract customers, which will turn help in boosting sales.
