Bajaj has opened the bookings for Chetak in Goa. Interested customers can book one by visiting Bajaj India’s official website with a payment of INR 2,000. For offline customers, Bajaj Chetak is being sold via the KTM outlet in Mapusa. Currently, only one variant of the Chetak is on sale in the state, i.e. the Premium variant. This particular trim gets a sticker price of INR 1,44,625 (ex-showroom). In other cities, Bajaj Chetak electric scooter is available in two variants, namely, Urbane and Premium.
Powering the scooter is a 3.8 kW motor alongside a non-removable 3kWh IP67 lithium-ion battery pack. With a top speed of 70 kmph and a range of 95 km in the Eco mode, this electric scooter does not score highly in the riding department. Other options in the segment offer way more riding range that too with no compromise on the performance. But, for Bajaj Chetak, the area where it shines is its design and aesthetics. Available in four shades, namely, blue, black, red, and hazelnut, the scooter is one of the better-looking products out there.
As per the latest reports, Bajaj is working on launching an upgraded version of the Chetak. This scooter will be more localized, thus reducing the dependency on imported components. As of now, we know that Bajaj will use an improved and powerful motor. The peak output figure stands at 4.2 kW and a continuous output of 4.0 kW.
With the increase in localization, we can expect Bajaj to price the updated model at more affordable pricing. The key is the increase in localization that will help reduce the cost. Although, we do not have any official statement as of yet. The current model on sale has a very generous price tag when compared to the other offerings. And hence the scooter is not selling in the volume Bajaj would have liked. But, with the new Chetak in the works, we can expect Bajaj to analyze the situation and come up with a better business plan.
