Bajaj Chetak electric scooter launched in India for INR 1,00,000

Bajaj Auto has launched their first electric scooter in India, the Chetak. The Chetak is an old scooter nameplate here in the Indian market, but it is now an EV and prices start at INR 1 lakh. The Bajaj Chetak Urbane edition is priced at INR 1,00,000 while the Chetak Premium edition is priced at INR 1,15,000. Prices for both models mentioned here include the subsidies from the government as per the EV policies, but insurance and road tax will be additional.

Bajaj Chetak electric scooter bookings open tomorrow, and these scooters will be available at select KTM dealerships for test rides starting from January 2020. Booking amount for the Bajaj Chetak electric is INR 2,000 and all the sales & bookings for this will be handled online via the official website.

Powering the Bajaj Chetak electric scooter is a 3kWh battery pack which equates to 48V & 60.3 AH. The new Chetak claims to have a riding range in excess of 95 km on a full charge and the motor will produce 4080 Watt of peak power and 3800 Watt of continuous power. The Chetak electric will have 16 Nm of peak torque available instantly. The battery pack on the scooter is IP 67 rated, so it is dust and water proof. Bajaj claims that the scooter will take 5 hours to achieve a 100% charge status while the scooter will get 25% charge in just 1 hour. The Chetak electric will have a service interval of 12,000 km and a warranty of 3 years / 50,000 kms whichever is earlier. The charger for the scooter will be complimentary and installed by the company at the owners parking spot. Bajaj Auto is offering a gear drive train on the Chetak electric and there will be ECO & SPORT riding modes. The scooter will get a full metal body with a single-sided cast aluminium swing arm. The unique feature for this electric scooter would be the reverse gear to handle it in parking spots.

The Bajaj Chetak Urbane edition will come in solid glossy paint options with a black rexine seat in medium grey colour with the scooter bezels in siberian silver. The wheels will be painted in black solid matte colour and the floor mat will be black TPU finish. The Urbane edition will come with drum brakes. The Chetak Premium will come with metallic glossy paint job with tan seat with light tan stitching and satin silver bezels. The wheels will be in slate grey / metallic black shade with the floot mats in dark grey + speckles in TPU material. The Chetak Premium will get a font disc brake.
