Bajaj-Triumph recently announced the price of the Triumph Speed 400. However, there were news reports going around with regards to the on-road pricing. Now, Bajaj has released an official statement in this regard.
A screenshot of the Speed quotation from a dealer in Karnataka has been circulating online. In this, the dealers had added delivery charges of INR 17,000, and an intro kit worth INR 8,500. Further, it was made to look like these were compulsory charges.
This led to a lot of speculation with regards to the official company stand. Hence, to dispel rumours, the bike maker has released and official statement.
The statement reads as:
At Bajaj Auto Ltd., we are committed to our customers and follow the highest standards of transparency, including pricing. We would urge all our customers and media to ignore the rumours doing rounds across various public and social media platforms related to the on-road pricing of the new Triumph Speed 400. The company has not released any on-road price guidelines and the same would be in line with its other products and industry norms. This will be issued by 10th July.
Triumph has launched the Speed 400 in India at INR 2.33 lakh (ex-showroom). While the Triumph Speed 400 and Scrambler 400 X were unveiled at the same time, the latter will be arriving at the dealerships later this year. Further, the introductory price is set at INR 2.23 lakh for the first 10,000 customers.
The Speed 400 is a result of the collaboration with Bajaj. The motorcycle gets a modern design with some design inspiration taken from the larger Speed Twin 900. Customers can choose from three colour options – Carnival Red, Caspian Blue and Phantom Black.
In terms of powertrain, the Speed 400 gets a new 398cc liquid cooled motor. This engine is rated at 39.5 BHP @ 8,000 rpm and a peak torque of 37.5 Nm @ 6,500 rpm. Power is sent to the rear wheel using a 6-speed gearbox.
