Audi shares electromobility budget up to 2025, 20 fully-electric cars to be launched

Audi has shared the brand’s investment plans for the next five years. The brand has announced that it will be investing a total sum of EUR 35 Billion, despite the difficult business situations. The amount will be spent on research and development as well as on assets in the period between 2021 and 2025. Out of the EUR 35 Billion, almost 17 Billion are allocated to vehicle projects and innovative vehicle technologies, which is nearly half the total expenditure. 

The company has also announced that under their ‘Roadmap E’, Audi will be allocating a sum of approximately EUR 15 billion only for electrification, which is more than 40% of the total expenditure, out of which EUR 10 billion will be channelled towards electromobility and EUR 5 billion towards hybridization. The brand also revealed that by 2025 Audi’s e-portfolio will have 30 models out of which nearly 20 models will be 100% electric powered. 

Audi will also be leveraging the synergies with the Volkswagen Group for the modular electrification platform (MEB). The brand is also working together with Porsche to develop a ‘premium platform electric’ (PPE). The company under the Roadmap E aims for a large scale offensive of fully and partly electric models. 

The brand has announced that it will also benefit from the cooperation with the Volkswagen Group in the field of digitalization which will give the company a competitive advantage as well as improve its efficiency. The company also announced that Audi’s CEO will be taking over the position as chairman at the ‘Car. Software-Organization’. 

The brand is also optimizing its product portfolio to make it leaner and efficient, improving the fixed costs and reducing the complexity and internal processes. The brand also expects to gain substantial efficiency from the Audi Transformation Plan (ATP) and the Audi.Zukunft agreement. The Audi Transformation Plan commenced three years ago and more than EUR 6.5 billion have been released so far and Audi’s aim is to achieve a cumulative sum of EUR 15 billion by 2022 through this program.
