Audi has announced a new production milestone for the all-electric Q8 e-tron. The first Audi Q8 e-tron rolled-off the Brussel’s production line. As per the German carmaker, the plant has been a strong advocate for sustainable production. Since 2018, Audi has delivered over 1,60,000 units of the all-electric Q8 e-tron worldwide.
As part of the Mission:Zero environmental program, the carmaker will ensure all its plants are carbon neutral across the company from 2025. Thanks to this, the Q8 e-tron will be sold to customers in the United States and Europe as a certified carbon-neutral car.
The Brussel’s plant has been recognised at the first large-volume production facility which is also carbon-neutral. Back in 2012, the plant switched to green power.
Amongst other initiatives, Audi Brussels has installed the largest solar plants on the factory premises. The total surface area of the photovoltaic cells is 1,07,000 square meters. The system generates close to 9,000 MW of sustainable energy every year.
Additionally since May 2022, Audi has been utilising rail transport for the delivery of new vehicles for over 1,300 km. This has led to a savings of almost 2,600 tons of emissions every year.
Taking the inspiration from this plant, in the next phase, Audi will be looking at the Ingolstadt battery plant. The battery production will be ramped up thanks to the experience of delivering over 1,60,000 units of the Audi Q8 e-tron globally.
Since 2017, Audi has owned the Belgium facility. The first car to roll off the plant was the Audi A1. In 2021 the plant manufactured 43,866 all-electric vehicles. The next all-electric vehicle to roll-off the assembly line will be the Audi Q4 e-tron. Over 3,000 employees will be participating in the production of this new model.
