Luxury car manufacturer Audi has launched the Audi A8 L in India at the price of INR 1.56 Crore ex-showroom. The new Audi A8 L is the brand’s flagship luxury sedan car and the 2020 model is in its 5th generation. The A8 L will be offered only in a single trim variant – ‘55 TFSI’ in India and the luxury sedan focuses more on the rear seat comfort.
On the exterior, the Audi A8 L comes with a large Singleframe grille design, HD LED Matrix headlamps with Audi Laser Light technology and the car has a muscular tone when viewed from the profile. The rear comes with an OLED taillamp with an end-to-end light bar between the stoplights. In terms of its dimensions, the flagship luxury sedan is 5.3 meters long, 1.95 meters wide and 1.49 meters in height. Audi has used its space frame technology on the body which now consists of 58% aluminium parts and the brand claims a significant increase in strength as compared to its predecessor. The cabin in the Audi A8 L is made from hot-formed steel components along with ultra-high-strength torsionally rigid rear panel made from carbon fibre reinforced polymer. The car also makes use of magnesium strut-tower bar which improves the car’s handling performance as well as keeps its weight in check.
On the interior, the Audi A8 L comes with controllable matrix LED reading lights, perforated seat upholstery, electrically opening and closing decorative shutters on the air vents and satiny leather on the head restraints. The master seat which is the rear left-hand seat comes with a host of features such as a footrest on the back of the front passenger seat with a foot massager. The rear seats on the Audi A8 L come with two Audi Tablets and rear seat remote as part of the Audi Rear Seat Entertainment package. The air quality package on the Audi A8 L comprises of an ioniser and a fragrance dispenser along with a particulate filter that neutralises allergens from the outside air. The infotainment system is a 10.1-inch touchscreen display which blends with its piano black surrounding when turned off. A secondary display on the central tunnel is used to control the air-con, other convenience features and has handwriting recognition that enables the user to enter texts.
The powerplant on the Audi A8 L in India will be a 3.0-litre TFSI V6 petrol motor that produces 340hp of power and 500Nm of torque mated to an eight-stage Tiptronic gearbox and Audi Quattro permanent all-wheel-drive system with self-locking centre differential as standard and a hydraulic torque converter with lock-up clutch. The engine comes with Mild-Hybrid technology which employs a Belt Alternator Starter (BAS) with a lithium-ion battery rated to 10 Ah electrical capacity. This technology allows the Audi A8 L to coast for up to 40 seconds with its engine turned-off between the speeds of 55 kmph and 160 kmph. The powerful engine can propel the luxury sedan car from a standstill to 100 kmph in 5.7 seconds and can do a top speed limited to 250 kmph.
