Audi e-tron S & e-tron S Sportback, electric Performance models revealed

Audi has revealed the performance electric models of the e-tron S and e-tron S Sportback with styling and aero upgrades as well as changes to its propulsion system and is available in two body styles a boxy ‘S’ model and a sleeker Sportback.

The Audi e-tron S and the e-tron S Sportback have been upgraded with new aerodynamic features by using air curtains and airflow optimisation through the wheel arch trims, channelling the air around the wheel arch and with the new aerodynamics package the Audi e-tron S achieves the drag coefficient of 0.28 and the Audi e-tron S Sportback gets a drag coefficient figure of 0.26.

The innovative aerodynamic package also includes a controllable cool-air inlet that also acts as the thermal management control centre which comprises of two electrically operated louvres behind the single-frame grille and is typically closed at speed between 48 and 160 kmph but opens automatically and gradually whenever the vehicle requires more cooling air. The air can be diverted to components such as the drive components, air conditioning unit and braking components etc. The car also has a cooling fan to fulfil more cooling needs at slower speeds.

In the powertrain department, the e-tron S and the e-tron S Sportback performance variants come with three electric motors two motors on the rear axle and one on the front that generate 504 Hp of power and 973 Nm of torque in boost mode for 8 seconds which can propel the car from 0-100 kmph in 4.5 seconds and achieve a top speed of 209 kmph.

The three motors not only provide this tremendous straight-line torque in boost mode but also help steer the car better by torque vectoring. The electric motors on the Audi e-tron S and the e-tron S are coupled to a 95 kWh battery pack that provides a claimed range of 359 km and 364 km on a single charge which is 80 km less than the standard model.

While Audi could bring the standard e-tron to the Indian market in 2021 the performance S variants have not been announced for the Indian market yet.
