Ather Energy has introduced the new Ather 450X which it calls the Super Scooter. The Ather 450X is priced at INR 99,000 (ex-Bangalore) along with a monthly subscription of INR 1,699 for the Plus and INR 1,999 for the Pro model. The scooter comes in two performance variants which also gives its owners flexibility to switch between the two performance packs at their convenience. In addition to this, it is important to note that, Delhi and Maharashtra state also provide additional EV subsidy of approximately INR 14,500 and INR 5000 respectively which may benefit the Ather 450X owners.
The Ather 450X comes packed with a 6 kW PMSM motor that produces 26 Nm of torque and can accelerate from 0-40 kmph in 3.3 seconds. The battery on the 450X is a 2.9 kWh Lithium-Ion battery with a projected (Indian Drive Cycle) range of 116 km and a true range of 85 km in city conditions. The 450X comes with 4 riding modes, Warp-Sport-Ride-Eco. The new high-performance Warp mode makes it one of the quickest electric scooters in its category. The 450X also comes with a fast-charging system with a rate of 1.5 km per minute (0-50% SOC), 0-80% SOC (Home Charging) can be achieved in 3 hours 35 minutes and 0-100% (Home Charging) in 5 hours 45 minutes.
The Ather 450X comes with a 7-inch TFT LCD, LED Backlit, Touchscreen display with a colour depth of 16M and is powered by a Snapdragon 212 Quadcore 1.3 Ghz processor with 1GB RAM and 8GB storage that runs an Android Open Source OS (AOSP) operating system. The electronic package offers features like GNSS with AGPS positioning system, 4G LTE Cat-4 / WCDMA / EDGE, Wi-Fi 2.45G, Bluetooth 4.2 and BLE 5.0 connectivity and includes features such as over the air updates, onboard navigation, auto indicator off, take-me-home lights, connected mobile app, side stand sensor and many app-based features like ride stats, push navigation, live location & vehicle state, tracking, theft/tow detection, music control, call control, welcome lights and voice assistant. It also supports smart accessories like tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS) and smart helmets.
The company has also recently signed an MoU with the Govt. of Tamil Nadu to build a 400,000 Sq. Ft facility which will help scale up the operations across the country and the Ather 450X will be available in 10 major cities including Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Pune, Hyderabad along with Bengaluru and Chennai. Ather will also equip other key markets with Ather Grid fast charging stations near malls, cafe’s, tech parks and supermarkets just like they did in Bengaluru and Chennai.
The pre-bookings on the Ather 450X have begun the pre-orders at INR 2500 and plan to deliver the super scooter in the third quarter of 2020. The 450X is available in three colour options Mint, Grey and White.
