Ather Energy recently inaugurated its second manufacturing facility. This has come up in Hosur, Tamil Nadu. The facility spreads across 300,000 sq. ft. Ather mentioned that with this new facility, the brand could expand its production capacity to 4,20,000 units per annum. This will enable the company to fulfill the increasing demand for its flagship scooter.
Given the rising demand for electric scooters, rapid scale-up is susceptible to quality issues. Thus, Ather’s priority is to deliver safe and reliable products to its customers. To realize this, the company has made deep investments and innovations in processes and machines. All in all, this plant will help Ather to further strengthen its leadership in delivering quality vehicles.
Ather’s new manufacturing facility is spread over 300,000 sq. ft. and has two units. One is dedicated to battery production, whereas the other is for vehicle assembly. The battery unit will have five assembly lines, while the vehicle assembly will have two assembly lines.
As mentioned, the entire facility will have an installed capacity of 4,20,000 units. This state-of-the-art, modern facility aligns with the government’s ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ vision. The manufacturing unit will further boost local manufacturing in the country. With a strong local ecosystem, most of the supplier base for Ather Energy is in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. This makes Hosur an ideal location for the factory.
Ather mentioned that its latest manufacturing facility at Hosur aims to set new benchmarks in quality. The new facility uses Industry 4.0 vision. This brings together data from Testing and Simulation, Process (Industry 4.0), Field (connected vehicle) to deliver electric scooters with world-class quality. With the main focus on manufacturing excellence, Ather has improved its takt time by 10X and work content by 4X. With all the developments, Ather is also committed to vehicle safety. The company mentioned that currently, each scooter goes through more than 1500 stringent tests to ensure its reliability and safety.
