Ather announces the launch of its first official accessory for the 450X, Ather TPMS. The Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) from Ather was refined over the last few months. Additionally, Ather also held a beta among 450X users across the country before launching the final product. The accessory aims to increase the life of the tyre and also give the best range possible.
A Tyre Pressure Monitoring System or TPMS monitors the air pressure inside the tyres of a vehicle. Ather says, with ICE vehicles, people tend to check air pressures at the time they are at a fuel station to fill fuel. The company further adds that it’s easy to forget that with an electric vehicle since the charging happens at home. Hence, a TPMS system allows you to receive real-time information and alerts about the tyre pressures of the Ather 450X.
The first accessory from Ather for the 450X will cost INR 4,999 (inclusive of GST). The price includes the system itself, taxes, and the cost of installation. The TPMS is of the internal type, which is safer and also lasts longer. Interested customers can visit their nearest Ather Experience Centre or Service Centre to purchase and install the TPMS. The TPMS system comes with a 1-year warranty, and Ather says the built-in battery will last about 3-5 years from the date of installation.
Underinflation or overinflation of tyres has many consequences. An overinflated tyre will lead to more wear in the middle portion. The particular area of the tyre absorbs pressure that was intended to spread out over a larger surface area. The decrease in contact patch means less grip and can also affect to uneven wear of tyres.
On the other hand, an underinflated tyre has more contact with the road than it should have. The additional contact patch results in premature wear, tear or even a tyre blowout. An underinflated tyre will have higher rolling resistance, which also results in a lower range.
Owners who install the TPMS on their 450Xs will be able to get readouts in two ways – On the dashboard and the Ather application. On the dashboard of the scooter, you can check the real-time tyre pressure information. The TPMS system will also indicate on the dashboard home screen if it detects that the tyre pressures are suboptimal or hazardous. This does not require an active Ather Connect Pro subscription.
On the other hand, owners with an active Ather Connect Pro subscription can also check tyre pressures from the Ather App. One can see the current tyre pressures and also get notifications in case of a possible puncture or low/high tyre pressures.
