Electric mobility solutions company Ather Energy has announced that the brand will be bidding adieu to the company’s maiden electric scooter model the ‘Ather 450’. The brand has decided to stop production on the Ather 450 from today 28th November 2020, and the brand’s first product in the Indian market will be replaced by the Ather 450x and the Ather 450 Plus. The Ather 450x and the Ather 450 Plus are the technologically advanced and improved siblings of the Ather 450.

The Ather 450 was launched in the Indian market back in 2018 and was the result of 4 years of Research &Development in design, prototype building & testing. The Ather 450 also set new benchmarks in the electric two-wheeler industry, not only in terms of the futuristic design that the brand offered but also the power and range capabilities as well as its ability to recharge quickly. The brand also pioneered the concept of fast-charging stations in the Indian market.

The shutting down of the production on the Ather 450 marks the end of phase one of Ather Energy as the company moves on to a new stage with a new round of Series D funding to enable rapid growth. The brand has also opened up itself to new markets such as Mumbai, Pune, Delhi, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, Kochi, Kozhikode, Kolkata and Coimbatore.

The Ather 450 has only been upgraded over the years with 7 OTA updates including Eco-mode, Dark theme for the dashboard and guide-me-home lights. The brand has also revealed that the next OTA update with Theft and Tow detection feature for all Ather 450 and Ather 450X will be rolled out soon.

Recently, Ather Energy commenced deliveries of the Ather 450x to customers in Bengaluru and Chennai with a planned timeline and other markets in the pipeline. The brand also plans to expand the fast charging grid with 62 fast-charging points already running free of charge in Bengaluru, Chennai, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad and Pune.
