Aston Martin AM-RB 003 Hypercar named ‘Valhalla’

A few months ago Aston Martin’s mid-engined hypercar, the AM-RB 003 was unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show. The AM-RB 003 is now christened ‘Valhalla’, after the warrior’s paradise in afterlife for noble warriors, in the Norse mythology. The Valhalla is the second model that will be co-developed by Aston Martin and Red Bull Advanced Technologies. The Valhalla will be placed between the Valkyrie and the Vanquish.

Aston’s ‘V’ car naming strategy goes back to more than 70 years when the high-performance variants of the 1951 DB2 were unofficially designated as ‘Vantage’. The name got attached and was used later on the 2005 model line. Though information on the powertrain is scarce, the Valhalla is expected to get an electric-hybrid, turbocharged, V6 unit with a maximum output of 1,041 HP mated to an 8-speed Formula 1 inspired dual-clutch transmission with a limited slip differential and an e-AWD system.

The Valhalla is expected to feature a full carbon monocoque and carbon body panels which will help the hypercar tip the scale at 1,350 kg. With such light weight, the power to weight ratio of the Valhalla is likely to be around 750 HP per tonne. If the details are true, the Valhalla can sprint from 0-100 kmph in 2.5 seconds with a top speed exceeding 350 kmph. The car will have active suspension, active ride height, platform control and damping systems derived from the Aston Martin Valkyrie.

In the interior department, the Valhalla is designed with Aston Martin’s ‘Apex Ergonomics’ which has the control built around the drivers line of sight. This arrangement creates an alignment between the driver, the steering wheel, the pedals and major controls. The instrument cluster is a fully digital console mounted on the steering wheel with the Aston Martin’s ‘Bring Your Own’ infotainment system which simply mirrors the users smartphone.

The Aston Martin Valhalla is expected to come in a limited number and around 500 examples of the hypercar to be built. The price on the Valhalla is likely to be priced around GBP 1-million and European buyers would be required to lay down a deposit of at least EUR 250,000 to secure a build slot. Aston Martin is expected to begin deliveries in 2021.
