Daimler India Commercial Vehicles has announced that the brand has won the bid for Assam State Transport Corporation which has ordered 20 BharatBenz buses expanding the brand into the State Transport Undertaking segment. This is the first time that the brand has forayed majorly into the State Transport segment and the company has announced that it is looking forward for more such opportunities.
The ASTC has chosen the BharatBenz 1017 AC buses that can provide services such as airport transfers, city and intercity transportation. The BharatBenz buses will be delivered via the Abutani Trucking in Guwahati, which is BharatBenz’s authorised dealership. The Honorable Cheif Minister of Assam and the Honorable Minister of Transport, Commerce and Industry have flagged off the new BharatBenz buses with the key handing over by the CEO and Head of Daimler Bus India.
The BharatBenz 1017 AC will be powered by a BS6 compliant 4D34i series four-cylinder in-line turbocharged and intercooled diesel with the displacement of 3907cc that produces 170 Hp of power and 530 Nm of torque matched to an M036 6-speed forward with overdrive and a reverse, synchromesh transmission with an organic dry clutch plate. It also features a dual circuit full air S-Cam type drum with an auxiliary exhaust brake system with Anti-Lock Brakes. 1017 also known as the staff bus comes with power steering and in-swing automatic doors.
The BharatBenz 1017 Staff Bus comes with the options of 2×1 layout with 26+2, 2×2 layout with 35+2, 2×2 layout with 39+2 High Head Rest, a powerful air conditioning, fixed glass, as well as safety features such as seat belts, provision for CCTV, GPS, RFID, navigation, illuminated entry area, emergency alarm etc. The BharatBenz buses are built at DICV’s state-of-the-art manufacturing facility at Oragadam.
The Assam State Transport Corporation provides connectivity in the North-East Indian state and operated buses in rural areas along with connecting the surrounding states.
