Ashok Leyland reveals future of CV segment at Auto Expo 2023

Ashok Leyland displayed a range of mobility solutions at the Auto Expo 2023. The flagship company of the Hinduja Group had on display a battery electric vehicle, fuel cell, hydrogen internal combustion and LNG trucks, an intercity CNG vehicle as well as a mini passenger bus.

Battery Electric vehicle

The BOSS BEV has been designed by Ashok Leland for a green and sustainable world. It uses a Lithium-ion battery that can be charged externally. To keep the payload high, the vehicle uses a lightweight design.

Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle

Powered by hydrogen, the fuel cell truck uses atmospheric oxygen along with hydrogen stored in the fuel tank to generate electricity. This energy is used to power the electric motor that drives the truck. Using a Lithium-ion battery, the vehicle can also be used as a limited battery vehicle as well. It can be charged separately as well. In terms of safety, the fuel cell electric vehicle comes equipped with a leak detection system.

Hydrogen ICE vehicle

The HICEV or Hydrogen Internal Combustion Engine Vehicle is powered by a clean energy source. It uses hydrogen and is very similar to conventional internal combustion engine vehicles. Just a few tweaks are done on such ICE engines and they too can run on hydrogen. The truck also comes with an ADAS system for improved road and vehicle safety.

LNG based truck

A unique dual-fuel vehicle that can run on both Liquefied natural gas (LNG) as well as Compressed Natural Gas (CNG). It uses a spark ignition internal combustion engine. The gas is supercooled and stored cryogenically in a liquid form. The dual-fuel truck will meet the long-range requirements of the heavy-duty trucks.

Intercity CNG bus

The 13.5m long Ashok Leyland bus is one of the longest buses in its segment. Powered by a turbocharged CNG engine, the bus 255 kg of CNG can be stored in its tanks which gives it a range of around 1000 km. The bus comes with 11 cubic feet of storage and can seat 36 passenger berths, which is 20 per cent higher than the segment norm.

Bada Dost Xpress

This CNG-powered mini bus can seat 12 passengers and has a comfortable entry and exit. Equipped with a next-generation engine, the Bada Dost Xpress is suitable for both city and highway operations. It gets an optional AC and vehicle tracking system.
