First showcased at the 2018 Auto Expo in India, Piaggio dealerships are now getting ready to launch the new Storm 125. The Storm 125 scooter is just a new variant which could be up for sale by the end of this month.
The Storm 125 shares the same hardware with the Aprilia SR 125, except for the wheels. The chassis, powertrain and brakes are the same as the SR 125. The grab handle on the SR does not continue on to the Storm 125 and may be sold as an optional extra as they do with the side stand. The smaller wheels and missing grab rail could be indicative of cost-cutting measures.
The wheels on the Storm 125 are 12-inch alloys as opposed to the 14-inch alloy wheels as seen on the Aprilia SR 125 and SR 150. The tyres on the SR were VeeRubber which recently got changed to MRF Nylogrip Zapper tyres and the Storm 125 that was showcased at the Expo was on VeeRubber tyres. We expect to see them on the production model, but may be replaced to keep costs in check. The Storm 125 has a larger section rear tyre as compared to the SR which sports 120/70 on both the wheels and the Storm 125 has 120/80 on the front and 130/70 on the rear.
The engine is expected to be the same, a 124.7cc, 3-valve, air-cooled, motor producing 9.52 HP of power @ 7250 RPM and 9.9 Nm of torque @ 6250 RPM. The front suspension is a hydraulic double telescopic fork and the rear has a hydraulic shock absorber. The front is equipped with a 220mm disc with 2-piston calipers and the rear has a mechanical drum brake. The hardware is expected to remain the save for a slight difference in engine tuning.
The body styling is the same as the SR 125 with three new colour schemes:-
The Storm 125 is expected to come equipped with a CBS brakes as standard, as seen on the Aprilia SR 125 now. The Storm 125 will be priced at INR 65,000 Ex-showroom, India and will compete the TVS Ntorq 125.
